What Do You Need?

Being a good volunteer coach involves many complicated aspects influencing a young person’s life. Of course you’ll need the basic equipment for your sport: a whistle, an equipment bag, balls, etc…

Below is a summary of necessary skills, attitudes and values for being a good volunteer coach.

What Do I Need to be a Coach

You have knowledge of the sport you are coaching, or are willing to learn.

You have basic organizational skills.

You are safety conscious and have basic first aid skills or knowledge.

You have good communication skills, with both kids and parents.

You should enjoy working with children, and not get easily frustrated by them.

You have a positive attitude.

You demonstrate and communicate a good sense of values. I.e. fair play, sportsmanship, respect and teamwork.

You can motivate, teach and be a role model for your players.

You should have a good sense of humor, because coaching is fun!

You have a positive attitude toward fitness.

You have a little bit of disposable income, because it will cost you some amount of money to care!
