Communication/Team Meeting
Joe Kyle on 15-May-2007 at 13:31:57
The very first time you meet your team, take the first 15-30 minutes and ask each player what they want to accomplish that year as a player and as a team. Then explain your methods, give a brief description of your coaching style and expectations. Finally explain the team rules. Ask anyone if they need clarification on anything and let the games begin.
I take this one step further by inviting my team parents to the first practice as well. I explain my rules and make it clear that any problems or concerns they may have. This open dialog has solved many a minor problem before it grew bigger.
My Team Rules:
1. Have Fun. If you are not haing fun, then why are you here.
2. Relax. Never put undo pressure on yourself or a teammate.
3. Never criticise a teammate for a mistake. Ever!
4. Never yell at a referee.
5. If you do not understand this, see Rule #1.
GREAT TIPS JOE!
