The 4-4-2 system is a basic but effective positioning system. Put your largest players in defense, players with the best crossing ability in mid field and your fastest players up front. If this fails then i always use 5-4-1. Big players at the back, fastest in midfield and smallest up front. A small man up front helps when you desperately need a penalty or free kick because referees are always on the little guys side.
