Fielding Gound Balls

Rudy Roque on 15-May-2007 at 13:31:57

This drill I learned from a more experienced Coach and since then has worked extremely well for me. It's great for teaching T-Ballers and first time players. This is a 5 step process. I simply call it 123. Line up your players, facing the fence. Give each player enough room between them so they can throw the ball without hitting each other over the head. Put a ball in front of each player. Count outloud each step. Step: 1. Put player in a ready position as if waiting for the batter to hit the ball, eyes foward. Glove on the dirt and loose hand open facing towards the fence. 2. With their loose hand grab the ball. Do not pick up leave on dirt. 3. With their loose hand have them put the ball inside their glove. 4. Have them bring the ball and glove up to their chest, stand them up. 5. Put them in a throwing position. Throw the ball. Do this 20-30 minutes a day before practice for the first week or two, depending on their level of conprehension.
