Coaching your own Child

One of the most difficult aspects of coaching your own child is "managing" each relationship with your child--after all, your child is the only player on the team that you have to have breakfast with the day after the game or the day after a practice. With that said, we all know that not all games are going to be wins and not all practices will fall into the 'diamond' category; my son and I have coped with this problem by finding a specific line in the sand (including, when "Dad" is referred to as "Coach" and when "Coach" begins to be referred to as "Dad" -- we have found that the car ride home is where alot of "personalized, off the field coaching" takes place, and have likewise found this to not be a positive thing--so we have made a 'line in the sand' at the field -- that is when Dad becomes Coach and vice versa (I wholly agree with the earlier tip to have your child refer to you as Coach on the field) -- more so, we have agreed that once the shower is taken after the game/practice, nothing more is said about the evenings past events and all focus turns to the next practice or game.
