Physical Activity as Punishment

I have been amazed at how many coaches I see that use physical activity as a form of punishment. I don't see how, in the long run, teaching kids that physical activity is 'bad' is a good idea. Probably one of the reason's we have so many obese children.

In my limited 4 years of experience, I have found that encouraging positive behaviour and performance seems to work better than punishing poor performance. It may be a candy treat, a gold star, a player of the day award, recognition in front of the parents and players, getting the captains armband.....
