Fielding Ground Balls

A simple drill to help kids learn to field the ground ball properly is the Pick-Up Drill. You stand several feet away from a player in a ready position and you roll/throw ground balls to their right and to their left. Stress the fundamentals below. This drill allows the fielder to learn to field without being afraid and they can field many more balls in a short time than would be possible if you were hitting the balls to them.
Fundamentals to stress: Bend at knees and waist; Keep weight on the balls of the feet;Use both hands; hold their hands out front so they can see the ball into the glove; keep their butt down as they move side to side.
