I may not be a coach, but as a player and a hitter there are some unwritten rules about hitting with a 3-0 count: Don't Swing! this tip is very helpful at young ages when pitchers are still very wild. But as they get older some pitchers make the mistake of throwing it slowly across the plate, usually around the middle. Coaches should encourage consistant hitters to take advantage of this. Although there is a risk of getting out, it makes for an easy hit.
