Baseball Fun Warmup Drill

Players pair up, one baseball to a pair. Player 1 runs to a spot approximately 100 feet away and places the ball on the ground, then sprints off to another location about the same distance away. As soon as the ball is placed on the ground, Player 2 sprints to the ball - when he/she is about to pick it up, Player 1 calls his/her name LOUDLY several times. Player 2 stands and accurately throws the ball to Player 1, then sprints off in the direction of the throw. Player 1 catches the ball, places it on the ground, then runs off again in a different direction. This is repeated 10 times, then the players switch. This drill is a good cardio conditioning workout, plus helps the player practice finding the infielder in a hurry after fielding a ball. If the entire team is doing this drill at once, have them use a tennis ball and catch bare-handed.
